So finals are over with and I have been spending the last week getting out of the zombie-like condition I always seem to morph into during exams and back into a more normal kind of life. The weather has been kind of cold and I was actually two seconds away from buying a wintercoat. Good thing I was so busy feeling guilty for not studying enough that I didn’t have time to go back to the store and purchase it, cause the day after my last final the weather changed and I am now sitting outside in 80° F (26° C) only wearing a t-shirt looking at the palmtrees. Yes, I am telling you this just so all the people in the cold Nordic country of Denmark can be a little bit envious… hehe.
The bells are ringing.
At STCL there’s a HUGE bell. I just recently learned the secret of the Bell. A carefully selected group of people get to ring the bell. So I was wondering what the qualifications to join that special group might be? Well, it seems that the one time you get to ring the bell is when you finish law school at STCL right after your last final. The number of times the bell says “dong” is indicative of how many times you have to take the bar exam before you pass it. Now I am finishing law school this year, not only at STCL but when I return to Denmark all I have left is my thesis. That means that my final exam in ADR last week was my last law school exam. FOR REAL. So I also qualify for ringing the bell. (Besides, Jeremy said it was okay!!!!!)
It is still somewhat questionable how well my exams went, but I am hoping for a passing grade and I decided to ring the giant bell. It made a wonderfully loud “dong” and my ears was still ringing an hour later. Only one dong to be heard which of course means that I will have no problem passing the bar… Now the only question left is which bar to pass, the Danish “fuldmægtig edu” or the Texas bar??? I wonder which one the bell-myth applies to?
Last week KJ and I went around the City to look at Christmas Lights. Have you ever heard the stories about the Americans that put up ridiculously many lights? Did you think they were exaggerating when the story was told?? I can now first-handed tell you that no exaggeration was made. It’s just CRAZY. Wonderfully fun to look at but I would never want that big of a lightshow around my own home… The trees were wrapped in lights, draping lights from the side of the roof and all around the house, lights shaped as reefs, Santas, elves, angels, snowmen, etc. And it doesn’t end there because Kristin promised to show me a street in Austin, where the residents are famous in Texas for the Christmas Light Show they’ve put up.
This leads me to tell you that I have been invited back to Austin to celebrate Christmas with the Finan’s. I am so thankful to be allowed into this wonderful family and I am very excited to experience a real American Christmas.
I hope y’all have a very merry Christmas. Next I have to come up with a New Years resolution that not only sounds like i’ve thought about it but also is possible for me to actually accomplish. So dieting is out of the question, besides I look just like I am supposed to look... cutting down on TV hours is just silly and I’ve already quit smoking so that is not an option. Tell me about your New Years Resolutions maybe that will give me some ideas.
